"I Can" Statements

Over the summer, I decided to retype all of the I Can statements and turn them in to cute monkey graphics.  I have a bulletin board that I change out daily.  I also have the I Can statements on poster that are kept up year round (Just in case I forget to change them and someone pops in ;) ), and I have the numbers only printed out and posted by each subject.  You could do this beside your daily agenda if you have one.  I also made one with cute kid graphics.  If you want to check them out you can get the monkey statements HERE and the kid statements HERE.

Treasures Reading: Language Reviews

The thing I loved about Saxon math was that it was very repetitive.  The students were practicing skills at the end of the year that they learned at the beginning of the year.  I really think it helped the students learn and remember their math concepts.  I decided to develop a Language Review that did the same thing.  Students learn the 4 types of sentences at the beginning of the year.  They will practice this concept until the end of the year.  The number of problems for each concept just simply decrease.  I have made these for all the reading stories except for the first 3 stories in the reading series.  To preview these unit click on one of the following:  Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit3, Unit 4, Unit 5, and Unit 6.

Describing our Classmates

Students use adjectives to describe their classmates!  

It is a great way to boost self-esteem and review adjectives. I gave each child a class list.  Beside each name, they had to write an adjective to describe that student.  I did not have them write anything beside their name.  After they finished, I compiled the lists.  I gave each student a piece of paper with all the adjectives listed that their classmates used to describe them. I took a picture of each student and gave it to them for the project.  They glued the picture to a white piece of paper and used markers to write their adjectives around their picture.  Then they glued that sheet of paper onto construction paper.  They really enjoyed seeing what everyone else in the classroom thought of them.  Some were also surprised with what was listed.
